Where to pick up some Parisian savoir-faire this autumn
....& more recommendations for November, from exhibits to wine tastings
Dear Subscribers,
As I note in my full guide to the capital in November, the 11th month sees an abundance of interesting goings-on that tend to be more geared to local interests and perspectives, and a tad less so to tourism. This makes sense, in that low season is well underway. Things are humming along at a low ebb, at least until the winter holiday events kick off at the end of the month.
I personally find this more locally-angled Paris refreshing and restful. If you’re someone who has either visited more than once and aren’t particularly interested in the usual tourist fare, or your general approach to travel is to spend the bulk of your time immersing yourself in local culture and traditions, I’d recommend visiting at this time of year.
(Hotel rates, airfares and other travel costs also tends to be significantly cheaper in low season, so that’s another potential boon to consider).
One event that’s only emerged in the past couple of years, aptly called Paris Local, is back for a third run from November 17th-19th in 2023. A bit in the same vein as the Belleville Artists’ Open Studios event that take place in May or June every year, Paris Local casts a spotlight on artisans living and working in the city, showcasing their talents and giving visitors a chance to purchase original items from some 600 craftswomen and men.
